Individual Counseling

Individual counseling, or therapy, is a collaborative process between a “client” and therapist. This process is designed to assist an individual gain an understanding about themselves and use this insight along with the skills learned in therapy to make changes in their life. Individual counseling facilitates the exploration and resolution of personal problems and issues according to the needs of the individual. These needs are identified at the start of counseling and will be reassessed throughout the process.  Please call Foundations for Change today to schedule an appointment or to learn more about our services.

Specialized Treatment

           -EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an evidence based treatment thathelps you to heal from symptoms that are the result of disturbing life experiences.  While focusing on the upsetting event, the therapist will begin sets of side-to-side eye movements, taps or sounds.  After successful treatment with EMDR, distress is relieved, negative beliefs are reformulated and physiological arousal is reduced.

           -Play Therapy

Play therapy is a powerful tool for addressing cognitive, behavioral and emotional challenges, especially in youth.  Play is the one of the ways children and adolescents express themselves, naturally.  Play therapists engage in specific play activities to target the patient's needs, using an indirect, very approachable treatment application for their patients.  Play therapists, use play to help patients process their experiences and develop strategies for managing symptoms.

          -Substance Use Disorder Treatment

Non-opioid outpatient substance use disorder is treated through individual therapy. A therapist will provide a safe and non-judgmental space to work through the challenges that contribute to a person’s addiction. Therapy provides support and guidance throughout addiction recovery. It can serve as a continuous support for those working on long-term sobriety. By learning about triggers and emotions, clients can learn the root causes of their addictions and how to avoid the personal and environmental stressors that could increase their risk of relapse.

Group Counseling

Group counseling, or group therapy, consists of bringing people together who share similar problems, hurts or needs to learn from each other’s experiences. The groups are led by a trained therapist that provides structure, psycho-education and clinical expertise on a variety of topics. Group counseling allows members to develop new ways of relating to one another. During group therapy, people begin to see that they are not alone and that there is hope and help. We provide a variety of group counseling including, but not limited to:

  • Anger Management Groups
  • Adolescent Group
  • Youth with Sexual Behavioral Problems
  • Non-Offender Program

Family Counseling

Family counseling is beneficial when assisting a child or adolescent who is exhibiting significant behavioral or emotional problems. This allows each family member an opportunity to voice their feelings, fears and concerns. There are many times in which family therapy can provide an opportunity for discussion and understanding such as transitional periods including death or serious illness of a loved one, divorce, unemployment, retirement or the departure of young adult children from the home. Family therapy may include some or all members of a nuclear family which may be biological parents, grand parents, step parents, adult siblings or any other individual considered to be a part of the family dynamic.  Please call Foundations for Change today to schedule an appointment or to learn more about visiting these services.
